Effective April 1, 2019, OHIP+ will no longer provide drug coverage for individuals under the age of 25 who have access to private insurance. Therefore, prescription drug claims for children and youth 24 years of age and younger with private plan coverage will have to be submitted directly to their private plan. Click here for details!

Retirees over age 65 

Should you elect to retire, you may remit your own contributions directly to the Trust Fund, providing all of the following conditions are met:

  • You are a Member in good standing with the Union at the time of your retirement,
  • You have participated in a Local 879 Teamsters Benefit Plan for a minimum of 10 years,
  • You are at least 65 years of age at the date of retirement, 
  • You are not actively employed elsewhere,
  • You notify a staff member at the Administrative Agent’s office of your retirement within 31 days of the date of retirement, and
  • You must choose the full package of benefits available.

Termination of Coverage

Your insurance will be discontinued on the earliest of the following dates:

  • The date the insurance contract is cancelled or terminated,
  • The last day of the month in which you cease to make contributions, 
  • The date you cease to be a Member in good standing with the Union, or 
  • Your death.
